East Missouri Action Agency is a privately held not for profit corporation with 501(C)3 status. The agency was formed in 1965 and provides a variety of assistance to families with low incomes. Our service area includes eight counties in southeast Missouri.
Programs operated by the agency include Women's Wellness, CSBG, Weatherization, Head Start and Housing Programs (including Section 8). The agency also operates a 30' x 60' hydroponic greenhouse offering fresh leafy greens and tomatoes.
Primarily, we grow leafy greens such as lettuce (romaine and loose leafy varieties) and herbs such as basil. We also grow a variety of tomatoes that include both heirloom and hybrid types of cherry and beefsteak.
Due to the nature of hydroponics, we cannot be totally organic but we do practice insect control by using all natural sprays. We operate on a year round basis so we can provide fresh produce even through the cold months.
We are currently selling wholesale to individual restaurants and hope by spring of 2020 we can get established with local farmers' markets in our area.
