About Us
Augusta Winery, located in the scenic town of Augusta on the bluffs overlooking the Missouri River Valley, was established in 1988 by Tony Kooyumjian.
The town was founded in 1836 by Leonard Harold, one of Daniel Boone’s followers to St. Charles County, and became settled by predominantly German homesteaders. In 1980, Augusta was recognized as the first U.S. Wine District, or Viticultural Area #1, because of its unique soil, climate, historical significance, and quality of wines produced from grapes grown in vineyards that date to the 1800s. In 1998, Mr. Kooyumjian purchased the Montelle Winery, which was founded in 1970 and is known for its spectacular views and on-site chef.
