Terrie and I started Butterfly fields nursery 12 years ago after she told me she could “grow her own paycheck.” I had my doubts but being from Missouri, I said “Show Me.” We started with a handful of seeds and started selling flowers and plants. Today we have several large plots of land where we grow vegetables and herbs as well as other things. We sell our produce at the farm as well as at the Lee’s Summit Farmers' Market. My enterprising wife then suggested we do a pumpkin patch 5 years ago and here we are today. We really enjoy the children coming out to the patch and watching them enjoy themselves.

We raise a lot of different berries here as well as potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, pumpkins, gourds, many different types of herbs and other vegetables. In the fall we have our pumpkin patch.
You could say it is very Mom and Pop type as Terrie and I are both very hands on with the activities of the patch. Hayrides, hay tunnels and hay maze are just some of the things here as well as our story we tell as we go out to the patch, so children can pick a pumpkin. We have a country store that sells refreshments as well as crafts that are hand made. And of course pumpkins and gourds are for sale as well.
